John Ely (baseball)
John Daniel Ely (born May 13, 1986) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Early years Ely was born in Harvey, Illinois to Laura and Jack Ely. He attended Homewood-Flossmoor High School in Flossmoor, Illinois, where he compiled a 27-5 career record, including one perfect game. As a senior, he was selected as a first-team all-state pitcher in Illinois. Miami University Ely attended Miami University. As a freshman in 2005, Ely led the Mid-American Conference in strikeouts (108 in innings) and complete games (six) and tied for the conference lead in wins with ten. He won seven straight decisions during the months of April and May 2005 and compiled a 2.87 earned run average. He was also selected to the Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team. As a sophomore in 2006, Ely was selected as a first-team All-Mid-American Conference player after striking out 80 batters in innings. ...

John Ely (October 8, 1774 – August 20, 1849) was an American physician and politician who served one term as a U.S. Representative from New York from 1839 to 1841. Biography Born in Saybrook, Connecticut, Ely completed preparatory studies. He studied medicine, and practiced in Coxsackie, New York. He served as member of the State assembly in 1806 and 1812. He was one of the organizers of the New York State and Greene County Medical Societies in 1807 and also of the Albany Female Academy. John Hart Ely
John Hart Ely ( ; December 3, 1938 – October 25, 2003) was an American legal scholar. He was a professor of law at Yale Law School from 1968 to 1973, Harvard Law School from 1973 to 1982, Stanford Law School from 1982 to 1996, and at the University of Miami Law School from 1996 until his death. From 1982 until 1987, he was the 10th Dean of Stanford Law School. As a third-year student at Yale Law School, Ely became a member of the legal team of Abe Fortas, contributing to the landmark ruling in ''Gideon v. Wainwright'' that required states to provide legal representation to those who could not afford their own. He continued his legal career as the youngest staff member of the much-scrutinized Warren Commission tasked with investigating the assassination of John F. Kennedy. John M. Ely, Jr. (February 17, 1919 – March 30, 2007) was an American Democratic politician, purchasing agent, and civil rights activist who served two terms in the Iowa House of Representatives and Iowa State Senate from 1961 to 1969. Ely was instrumental in abolishing capital punishment in Iowa. Early years and education Ely was born to John Montague Ely, Sr. and Laurel Sullivan Ely. He graduated from Franklin High School and was educated at Coe College, the University of Iowa, and Princeton University where he received his degree in 1941.
